Oh the traffic!
After an 8+ hour trip, we settled in and hit the beach around 6 PM. Although I am not much in to surf fishng, I did bring a 7' spinning rod and threw a Gulp! tipped jig right behind the breakers. I was getting hits and they chewed my Gulp! down to the nub; I only brought one bait down. I suspect they were spanish mackeral (heard reports that they were up close) but they could have been blue fish.
Sunday morning is bike riding time so I will try again another evening.

My sister drove down to OBX last Saturday and it took them 10 hours. Needless to say, I will never do a Saturday to Saturday rental.

I don't know what part of OBX you are surf fishing, but down at Cape Hatteras in OBX you can catch all kinds of fish using squid and shrimp double rigged at the bottom on a 3 ounce weight.

Coz- normally we do Sunday to Sunday but we didn't even rent the house until luly 3 so we have very few choices. I was up at 6 but couldn't get the family moving!
Charlie- I am in Nags Head....tons of people......so I don't usually surf fish. Early or late I will throw a jig or a Gotcha (should have done that last night) behind the breakers. I will do my fishing wading and kayaking the sound. I also have a charter (fly) on Friday morning.
I will report as long as my kids let me use their laptops!!

I meant when I went down to the water yesterday evening. I got in the water (waist deep) and just relaxed and threw the jig. Once they ate the Gulp! down to the nub, I was just throwing the jig. I have 10-12 boxes of lures in the truck!!

No squid for me!!. I am using all artificials but my fishing will be in the sound from my kayak and then on a boat with Brian Horsely. Too many people to try to surf fish like you guys suggest....I'll hook some kid!!
We had storms tonight and we may get some in the AM so we'll see if I can get out on the kayak or not.
