I was emailing Herman every day this week as the weather forecst kept changing. I almost called it on Thursday but then the Friday forecast was better. The only bad thing was that all the forecasts were calling for a NE wind. That, plus an east wind, is a killer when you are fishing structure on the western shore.
So Friday afternoon I said, "we are going", and off to get the boat I went. Except my truck was dead. I tried my battery pack...nothing. I tried to jump it with the Malibu...nothing. So I let it run for a bit and I finally got it going. I told Herman that it was not looking good for me to get my boat.
But...it pays to have a great mechanic that you have been dealing with for 25+ years. It was 3 PM and I took the truck to Automotive Machine and Repair in Sterling and we determined that both batteries were kaput. They could install them before they closed. But...they only had one of the batteries in stock. A quick call had the other one delivered and by 5, I was on the road to get the truck.
We were on the water by 7:30am and the skunk was off before 8:00 AM. This guy hit the 1st place we went.
But...no more so to the wall we went and Herman got his skunk off!
As we moved off to the beach jetty, Herman asked if I was superstitious....
Now the fun began. When we left Deale, we had 1 footers but very manageable. When we got to the house with the solar panels, we had 1-2 foot rollers and it hard to hold position or feel your lure (1/8oz). But Herman caught a few here.
We moved to the jetty and it started to get dicey but we managed a few nice perchies.
We decided to go hit the Deale wall again since it was just too choppy...so we did and we did really well including Herman's 11 incher (he caught 2 of these)!
For the SRRKC contest, I needed 3 over 10 inches but I only managed two of them (11.5 incher above) and this 10.5 incher!
Well, I am on the beard at least!
Here is the take (15 nice ones)!
Herman caught 1- 10 incher and 2- 11 inchers (his 1st 11's)!
We finished the day with some BBQ at Big Dave's and on home we went...satisfied that we fought very hard for our 50+ WP!

That's what we said....rather have it a bit tough than not going!

I'm used to panfishing trips being easy going turkey shoots where one just dips a jig or bait in the water and fish appear. Ernie was right, this was a lot of work. I barely did anything, Ernie did all the work with the boat, and I still got tired. Great day though. Thanks Ernie! Oh, this is what one looks like after some suggestions from my girlfriend and same things I vaguely remember my mom coaching me:
Tastes great.

Great haul guys.
Looks like Asian style steamed fish in the last pic. I tried making that with sea bass last year and it was very good.
