Capt Dave and I hit the pier at Accokeek around 2 pm. Stopped at Lion King for some ocean perch for bait. Handed him my 12 foot custom heaver and in two short casts he mastered it.. amazing. He was way out there in the 40 foot water after three casts.. Well then the unthinkable happened after many years of fishing the first day of the year. Totally out of the blue I caught a catfish.. blue catfish in fact. It was so out of tradition.

While he reeled in the fish, I kept his cigar alive. Three hits and done. Oh, and the bourbon, what was the name?

Sounds like you guys had a good time.....can someone please turn on the warm weather?

The bourbon was Old Bardstown.. a great find at under 20 bucks a bottle.

I was always told that the heat is in the tools. If you're going fishing it must be in the rods or reels. If it's in the bait I'll see you in the spring.

Couldn't ask for better weather on Jan 1 than mid to upper 40's and sun. Old dude next to us, "electricity guy", had a cooler full of nice eaters.

Don't forget about the shark.

Saw a very large shark push water 20 feet out from the pier.. probably a bull shark.
This was before drinking and Capt Dave saw the push as well.
