Crawfishing

I have a friend who wants to go crawfishing. He says that a lot of these local ponds have crawfish. He was asking for tips on how to catch them, when to catch them, ect.

Re: Crawfishing

I would suggest creeks with lots of rocks.  I used to catch them by hand in a creek near where I grew up Sterling.

Re: Crawfishing

I also used to catch them by hand when I was younger. Just find a creek and start turning over rocks.

Re: Crawfishing

By hand can be fun but using a trap is way easier. Just take some fish (minnows or cut up bluegill works) and some crushed crackers and throw them in some panty hose. Put that in a minnow trap in a creek and you should be all set. I usually put it in a pool after a rapid. Great way to catch bait! Soft shell crawfish are flathead crack but also work well for smallmouth.
