Mike and I were supposed to fish the NHBA tourney down at Aquia today but they had to change venues (Leesylvania) due to a road closing (Rt. 95) and the fact that there was another tourney there which made for crowded conditions. We decided not to fish the tourney and went on down to Pohick to join Curly and Kevin.
We were on the water at 6:45...
We had decided not to troll and stuck by our game plan but we got schooled by Curly and Kevin who boated at least a dozen stripers in each boat.
We jigged, threw rattletraps, used swim baits...you name it. Just like last Friday, we marked a ton of fish deep (40-50') but we could not connect. We fished a wide area including where Kevin and Curly were plucking fish out. But...nothing!
The tide died off at around 12:30 so we headed in to do some bass fishing. The 1st spot I picked (some docks that have produced before) gave up nothing but Mike had a plan.
He wanted to fish a particular cove and sure enough, he scored right away using his trusty chatterbait!
He caught a couple of more little ones and then finally, I connected on a blue/black tube with a twister tail.
I then switched to my funky green baby brush hog and it got clobbered! Record bass I thought but Mike announce that it was a channel cat, which fought hard and launched straight up out of the water! That was cool to see!
Mike then caught another fatso!
These bass were all fat....well fed!
I wanted to change up and I remembered that I had the weighted rattle trap still tied on so I cast it and got nailed!
It had been a looooong time since I caught a bass using a rattle trap. Mike switched up to one but neither of us had any more luck with it.
Mike did catch another one before we called it quits.
I caught the 2 bass plus the cat and Mike caught 5-6 LMB.
Great day out, saw some friends and did not hit any traffic going home.
All is good!

Thanks for the Pohick Bay Report. I almost forgot about Pohick Bay. I think I will try Monday after work.
