Visited my old stomping grounds in and around Orlando a few weeks ago for some fishing. The weather was OK (alot better than here!), water temps in the mid to high 60's. First stop was Turkey Lake, where you can rent 16ft jon boats equipped w/ a trolling motor and sonar. This lake was not even open to the public when I lived there (early 90's). No other boats allowed on the lake, and rentals are limited to the 4 boats, and are only rented for 4 hours, 7-11AM. Highly recommended if you are in the area. It was a great day for numbers, my Uncle and I caught the same 1 lb bass maybe 20 times
The next day we rented a pontoon on the St. Johns River near Lake Monroe/Sanford. Not so great, 1 bass and 1 crappie (or speck as they are termed locally). After that we headed to the intercoastal here: http://www.indianmoundcamping.com/
You can fish from their pier for $2. Caught alot of blues and 2 sea trout on a drop shot! Really wish I had a pic of the sea trout as they were my first.
Had a great time, it was a reminder of why that state is considered a fishermans' paradise. I miss the fishing but not the tackiness of suburban Florida!
