Tyler and I got out on the Yaks last weekend to fish the bridge pilings at Sandy Beach. We actually fished the other side based on suggestions from Redfish. There was pretty good current on the outgoing tide, but we were having a hard time catching. I had a nice Striper on for about 30 seconds, but he spit the hook. I felt like I had a pretty good hook set. Not sure why he was able to get off. Tyler ended up catching 3 nice 25 inch Stripers that put up a great fight. I only got pics of one of them.
We decided to stop for lunch at Hemingway's during the slack tide. A nice way to take a break in the middle of the day.
When we got back out, there wasn't a lot of current and didn't seem to be much going on out at the pilings. Based on my luck so far, I decided to switch it up and fish for WP. I headed over to the rocks along the shoreline and the shallower bridge pilings. Caught a few WP and baby Striper.
Then the action started. I saw lots of small fish breaking the surface all around me. For the next 30 minutes I was catching WP and small Stripers on virtually every cast. I was using an ultralight rod throwing a beetlespin with a white hair jig. It was so much fun just catching the little guys on light tackle. I didn't get any pics because I didn't want to miss any of the action.
A great Father's Day.

Outstanding.....did you put in at Sandy Beach SP and paddle all the way over to the other side?
Offline
No. Put in near Hemingway's. We put in on the beach near the parking lot, but Redfish later said they don't want us to do that and prefer putting in off a specific dock at the marina. I didn't do that so I don't know specifics.

Great stuff, glad you all got some fish! One of these days we'll be able to make it out there together.
Hemmingways changed owners last year and the new management does not want us launching on the beach anymore. At least they didn't last year and gave landscaping as the reason. We worked a deal to use G dock in the marina to launch. I think it works out better because you can toss the yak in right off the car and then set up. It's a little awkward the first time stepping down into the kayak but not too bad. I will try to post a picture for you all soon.

Greg, sorry for the delay on the G-dock launch information. Here is a thread with a discussion about G-dock and it contains a link to another thread with more information - http://www.snaggedline.com/showthread.p … -on-G-Dock
I can fish Sunday afternoon if you're interested?

Thanks Redfish. Tyler and I are leaving on Friday for a week fishing in Canada at Nungesser Lake (www.anglerskingdom.com). Will be back the 22nd. So, can't do it this week.
