Yeomoco River

We have a boat that we are building at a marina on the Yeomoco river.  This river has striper, croaker, and what ever else is in that type of water.  It is brackish water(mix between salt and fresh).  Their are also crabs(which taste delishous...crab down their a lot and come back with numbers in the twenties).  I have never fished for Striper or Croaker.  What should I fish with?  Can I use my bass rods?  I will be bringing my shark boat down their and I will fish around the dock and maybe venture out in the river on a calm day.  The river also eventually flow into the Chesepeake so when the boats done I can finally fish the Chesapeake!!!!

Re: Yeomoco River

Charlie,

You can fish for white perch with light tackle and for croakers and stripers with medium tackle. I can show you some lures to use. Fish docks, points etc just like for bass but using jigs, soft plastics (shad looking) and hard plastics. If you see blues, use metal and have a heavy leader,

Just make sure you rinse your equipment.

Re: Yeomoco River

What about rods?  Do I need a separate rod for the salt in the water or do my rods I have now work?

Re: Yeomoco River

Your rods should work....most of those fish in the summer won't be over 5 ponds.

Re: Yeomoco River

I'll be home this PM and after the Beaverdam outing tomorrow. You can take a look at some of the gear.
