My family and I went to Ocean City Maryland for the weekend and my friend and I did some fishing while we were there
We got to the hotel which was really nice and right on the beach and unpacked briefly. We then got all our fishing gear and went down to the beach right in front of the hotel to do some surf fishing. It didnt take long before it started to rain, and then my friend says...I think i have a fish... and he did so he reeled in and caught the first fish of the vacation and his first saltwater fish...a small spot
He then put another bloodworm on the hook and threw out again. It wasnt 10 minutes after he caught the first fish when he had another one on...It was a small whiting.
I am thinking...I cant let him beat me when this is his first time saltwater fishing!! so after about 30 mins of getting rained on I caught my first fish of the vacation...another small spot...
Then I caught one more small whiting and we had to call it quits because the storm was intensifying and the lightning was coming.
We got up at 6 the next morning and went right out to fish again. first cast of the day i got a double with a small whiting and a spot.
We then cut up the spot and used it as bait. It didnt take long until something bigger took my bait. I set the hook and got a pretty good fight. I had no clue what it could be. I bring it up to shore and it was a skate...we caught 4 more of these throughout the morning pretty quick...
After catching about 3 more skate i see my line bounce. I set the hook and come up with something i didnt expect. A small weakfish...
after the unexpected i got another strong bite and caught one more skate. after that we decided to head in but as zack was reeling his line in he felt he had something. it was another whiting.
Later that day we had heard that the route 50 bridge was a good place for small blues and striper so we decided to head there around 4 after hearing what lure we should use from a local tackleshop.
We hit the bridge and we could see flounder eating fish off the bottom so we casted our jigs in there and slowly rolled them on the bottom. I had 3-4 flounder following the jig at a time but none of them would hit!! so we gave up on flounder and went out a little further for some bluefish. when we got out there and dropped our jigs we could see immediately10 small fish swiping at the lure. we had to have had at least 70 hits but all were to small or fell off the hook when we tried to bring them up on the bridge the 2 we did catch were a big menhaden?? i am not quite sure so if you could help me out with this one that would be great!!
after that the bite turned off and we called it a day.
the next and last day was the slowest. we went out on the beach at 6 and didnt get a bite for about an hour. then my rod started to bend and i quickly grabbed it and yanked back. turned out to be a small sand shark which was definitely the highlight of my trip.
after that we got 3 crabs up on the beach that were holding on to our bait... not so good. we didnt catch anything else and we had to head home.
overall this trip was so much better than i expected and i had a lot of first times catching fish such as the bluefish, menhaden, sand shark, whiting, weakfish, and skates. cant wait to do this trip again soon.

Thanks you!!
And I agree! those things are fun to catch and put up a great fight but when you realize it is just a skate you are disappointed. That is why the shark was the highlight because i thought it was a skate and it turned out to be a shark....which is pretty awesome!!
