DC Rockfishing 4-6-11 (25 pounder)

Could not find anyone for my open seat this morning, so I went alone.  Started off with cut mullet and only 6 blue cats to show for it.  Caught a monster herring (no, not a shad) and put it on live, but no takers.  Caught another herring the perfect size (~8") and put it on another rod live.  15 minutes later that rod goes off and is squealing drag.  I'm over half spooled by the time I get the other rods out of the way, and in the boat.  The fish is at least 80-90 yards down river by the time I get the rod in my hands.  15 minutes later, she is gently netted into the boat.  25 lbs 2 oz and 38+ inches long.

Released to be caught again.  What a beast to start the season off!

Pretty fish, glad your effort was rewarded. Between yours and the one posted over the weekend it looks like getting the herring is the hard part.

Went today with Bob Morgan and no stripers.  Several blue cats, but no real size to them.
