Smith Mountain Lake

On Sunday Derek and I fished the college fishing tournament on Smith Mountain Lake.  It was a very tough day of fishing and very very cold.  It even snowed for 2hours!  I had one bite the entire day and lost the fish and Derek caught one fish.  We could not dial into what the fish were doing.  I think the dramatic drop in temperatures is what really killed us.

Smith mountain lake is a very cool place though.  You are right next to mountains and the water was very clear!

Re: Smith Mountain Lake

Sorry you didn't do well Charlie.  I normally have good luck down there. When cold fronts move through, I just switch to Carolina rigged plastics (Lizards) and fish the same areas that I normally fish, but back off into a little deeper water.  I would probably have spent most of the day on the point with the white Gazebo on it. It is a long rocky point that drops off into 30+ feet of water on both sides. Have caught many good fish there, all on Carolina Rigs.

Re: Smith Mountain Lake

The winning team caught their fish on crankbaits in 10ft or less of water.
