Occoquan River 2-26

Curly and I finally got our schedules worked out and headed to the Occoquan River. We had visions of filling the cooler with 13” yellow perch.
Once there, we got reports that the YP run has either not started or is very slow this year.
I guy said he has only caught 3 this year another boats occupants said they haven’t caught any in three tries.

I caught the first one, only 3-4’ long. After that Curly got a hot hand and put 9 that were big enough for the cooler before I could catch another. We went up and down the river searching. We would hit a few and then the spot would slow down.

We ended up with 17 keeper YP and I am not sure how many bass, but quite a few.
We had a good time and felt we did as well as we could have.

We both forgot camera’s.

P.S
Ernie, I owe you $3 for a silver buddy. Thanks for letting us borrow your collection. That was what we caught them on.

That's good work...other reports indicate that they are not yet in full swing.

Glad you guys got out.....

No worries!! It's not the money, we just need a place to find some to replenish the stock. I got 2 of them (originals) at the NHBA Flea Market but I am afraid to fish them. But after seeing Thai's $150+ baits on Saturday......

Glad you found them Bob. I have some knockoffs as well as some that are painted, have weights etc.

Yep....I tend to undervalue what I spend on lures etc. Sometimes they have these at shows, 3 for $10.

Jumping Jasper and Curly,
It was very nice to meet you guys.  As soon as I clicked the submit button, I saw your thread. I could piggy back on your thread.

Anyway, I lost two silver buddies (3/4 oz) that day by snagging something on the bottom. I did not bring the anchor and I was drifting a little fast.  I couldn't find Silver Buddies at Dick's any more.

I just ordered 8 silver buddies (1/2 and 3/4 oz)  from the web site.

Thanks,
Joe

I just picked up a Silver Buddy at Dick's in Sterling today.  I got the last 1/4oz one.  They still had some larger ones.  $3.99

Re: Occoquan River 2-26

Is there a preferred size for these yellow perch?

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!
