I was talking to Charlie Taylor earlier in the week about open ramps and ice free water so that I could demo my boat. That plan got pushed back so Charlie asked if I was interested in fishing Lake Anna with him.
No need to twist my arm! We met up at 6 AM and took our time heading down as neither one of us wanted to fish in freezing temps. I had enough of that the day before.
By 9 AM we were on the water (had a choice.... hot or cold side....we chose cold) and after less than a 1/2 casts, Charlie nailed this 2-3 pounder on a jerk bait!
OK....we are off to a good start but for the next several ours, all we did was strain water and sight see!
We then made a decision to take the boat out and go to the hot side. This is made easy by the fact that Charlie had access to a double ramp...one on each side of the dike. In 10 minutes, we were back on the water and in 30 minutes, Charlie was hooked up! This time, he was using a shaky head.
He caught a couple of more and then I finally hooked up using a Tookache spoon in 25 feet of water.
We also had a little company....
I caught another little one and then the spot dried up so we moved on to a few points. Again, Charlie hooks up, this time on a crankbait.....
....and I did as well but he did not make it in to the boat. That was the last action we had. We tried several other spots to no avail and then the front started to move in bringing higher winds so we called it a day.
The weather was nice, it got into the mid 50's and it was intermittently cloudy with winds 6-12mph.
I had a great time fishing with Charlie; certainly a nice way to start the year!
