After a slow day fishing at BDR, I decided some river R&R was in order. So I headed off to Riverbend again.
The day started of slow, but then things picked up after I figured out they wanted to eat a spinner bait. On the river, I usually just use inline spinners - Rooster tails or Mepps. Today the Mepps was on fire - I didn't tie on another lure the rest of the day.
Smallie ...
... went a hair over 17 inches.
Biggest fish of the day. I didn't have my digital scale, but I'm guessing maybe 3lb? It was a football.
It also measured 17 inches. My little ruler only goes to 18
I also ended with a couple of 15's and several smaller smallies. All in all, a fantastic day on the water.
Only downside is I broke one of my rods being an idiot trying to untangle my line. And I realized that I need to get some breathable waders, unless I want to make friends with hypothermia.

Excellent catching! Nice report & pics. WTG. Guess I made the wrong choice after work yesterday. Hit the tidal Potomac and caught a bunch of small stripers 6-10". Gonna have to get back to Riverbend soon!!

Dang!
I saw some big Smllies in the Algonkian River. I thought they were 3+ pounder. But I was not sure they grow that big. Hmmm I guess I was wrong.
Thanks for the report.

I'm sure there is a citation somewhere at Riverbend Someday ...

Wow, you pulled some nice chunky ones out of there. I haven't been back there since fishing with my girls there early August. Anyone know how cold the water temperature usually fall to before the Potomac smallies stop biting?
