Got a late start to the day and put in around 10:30 I think it was. As I was putting in a guy that was leaving wished me luck since he didn't have any. I headed upstream along the southern edge of Tenfoot and Van Deventer Islands until just past Horsepen Run. Horsepen Run is where I fished from shore as a kid since that's my neighborhood up there. Along the way I saw this huge snapper.
I caught one smallie along the islands. Then I paddled up the Run to check it out. I worked my way downstream along the VA side. I stopped at one spot where there was a long I could sit against to keep from moving. Something happened to be feeding out in the current here. I got three small SMB here, two on the bitsy minnow and one on a senko. I got one more SMB further downstream.
Throughout the day I caught dozens of these sunfish. Some had a lot more color than this one.
Once back to the Tenfoot Is. area the water in the middle was deeper so I went out there and trolled a Rage Tail Craw along the bottom while casting the bitsy minnow towards the banks as a floated along.
The bitsy minnow is irresistible to anything that sees it. A 17" 2lb channel cat this time.
I checked out further downstream and along the MD side of Sharpshin Island too without catching anything else.

How is the grass on the river? I want to take my jet boat out there, but its such a pain if the grass keeps clogging the intake.

Of course.
I don't think I have had the boat out since June.
Thinking about opening day of MD duck on Sat.

The big clumpy grass is where the water is deeper (5-6ft) and it's at least a foot below the surface. There are some areas on the VA side of the islands though where the river depth can be measured in inches. The MD side is consistently deeper.
