Big Jeff called in sick at 4am, so I got Thai on the phone and he met me at Gravely Point at 5:15am. Started with topwater for stripers in the WC, but no takers in the two spots that usually hold them. Set up the trolling gear once it got daylight and Thai puts this throw-back in the boat on the first pass.
We mark plenty of fish......but they will not hit our lures.........lots of weak knock-downs..........but they will not hook up. Around 7:30 am or so another rod goes down and I bring in this 4+ pounder.
We troll more and Thai can't seem to get a break with a couple getting off. On our last pass of the WC, we get slammed by a big fish. I grab the rod and Thai maneuvers the boat so we can land it. Break in my new gaff with a lip gaff. The blue cat was about 12 pounds we estimated.
We then headed up 4-Mile Run in search of snakeheads. Didn't catch any there, bu I did hook this fat 2-3 pounder.
We head out and get hung on a sand bar for a minute or so, before heading to the power plant outflow. Thai hooks a nice smallmouth, but it flips off next to the boat. Didn't catch a lot of fish......just enough to keep it interesting.........And the weather was absolutely perfect until we got off the water at 10:30.
