We had low water conditions which caused Charlie and his brother to stay home....rather than risking a broken prop or shaft. Good call!
I arrived at Algonkian at 0520 to find Bob and Tim ready to roll in their kayaks.
A few minutes later Patrick and Steve arrived, they were fishing in my canoe.
There was NO current whatsoever but it was a beautiful morning!
We all split up to to our own thing...I headed right out in front but had no takers so I started throwing a buzz bait at the MD shore and got slammed by a skinny almost 13 incher. That was target #1....I wanted one on a buzz bait. As I was measuring him, he flipped and out the boat he went!
I also wanted one on a soft swimbait and a few minutes, this little guy obliged!
O then spend a couple oof hours "just lookin' ". I could not but a bite....actually, I had several bites but they never got to the boat. I fished the ledges on the other side of the 1st island for a long time. Some hookups but nothing doing.
Then I glanced over to the island and saw this....
It looked like an eagle but I needed a closer look to make sure it was one!
Yep! What a beautiful bird. I tried to make some noise to get him to fly buy nothing doing....he just sat right there.
I only had a little over an hour to go so I decided to head over to teh VA side where I used to fish back in the 80's. Some of the turf looked familiar but time does change things. It didn't take long to get this guy....
....but back in '86, that would have been a 2 pounder. I caught him and another one on a short white wacky worm.
A few minutes later, I got snagged...or so I thought. This 12.5" fat smallie fought like there was no tomorrow!
I am impressed with their fight every time I go out...they put LMB to SHAME!! For the day, I hooked about 10 fish and landed 6 of them.
This is a beautiful but nasty bird!
These guys will chase you don and put a hurting on you!
We all ended up back at the ramp at 11 AM and everyone caught fish. I will let the other guys tell their story.
On the way home, at a stop light, I lost my canoe! Somehow, one of the straps came lose and when I went to go on the green, out it went. No harm done as I was going slowly!

Was there much star grass in the river? Your pics make it look as if there was not much grass clogging the river............

Lots of grass...all laying down. I stalked a few smallies that I saw in the grass but they just looked at me and said "see ya!"

Here are some of Bob's pictures...he caught a mess of fish including two 14 inchers!
Hey...that's me!
Some of his fish!
I like it when a fisherman takes the time to smell the flowers!
More feesh!
And birds...

Great day on the water. Steve and I waded most of the day and ended up landing 8 on 10 bites. My biggest was a 1.5lb LMB on a jig. We had a couple of decent 10-11in smallies and a couple of feisty bluegills. Thanks for the canoe rental. Sorry for the broken oar...but at least the current was light and we were able to make safely to shore!

Nice job guys. Great pics.

I'd call that a successful outing.
The lack of rain is starting to show. I tried the lower Goose last Monday and it was 2ft lower than the last time I fished it. I was running aground. I forgot to put the SD card back in the camera so no pics. Did catch a decent channel cat on the bitsy minnow fish from the shore at the mouth. It broke off the lure before I could unhook it. But on the way back upstream I found a craw pattern bitsy minnow stuck in a tree.

Agreed. Point of Rocks is at 1.03, which is extremely shallow...we need rain! It is crazy becasue it was soooo high earlier this year!
