I've heard guys out west call this a "Bubba" shot rig. They mix punching with dropshotting.

I used this technique quite a bit last year on the Potomac, especially around matted vegetation. 65lb braid, 4/0 flipping hook tied 1-2ft above a tungsten punching weight. Tie the weight to the end of the line upside-down so the tip of the weight penetrates first. It works

I'm guessing when fishing around matts, it's best to skin hook the lure as opposed to nose hooking a traditionall drop shot lure so you don't get snagged up?
Didn't this technique with a 12" jellyworm win some big tourney last year?

Yeah i rigged it weedless like you would a normal texas rig. Sweet beavers worked best for me, I fished a magnum trick worm a few times too but didn't have much success. This deal worked better in areas with matted grass over deeper water(3+ ft) especially during a high or slack tide. When the water was moving, they seemed to like the normal punching rig better.
