Fished the bump 3/27/23

I have had a lot of non-fishing stuff going on and I wanted to get out at least one day this week.  The river rose to 5 foot at POR.  I thought it would be muddy, but mostly greenish stained with some swirly brown.  Lots of debris was the big challenge for the day.  I tried some island eddies with no luck before running way upriver.  It did not take long until I got some hit and then caught this 17+ incher on a tube.

I had a couple taps and had one more hooked for a minute before it got off.  They were not really committing, but that one was my fault.  The floating debris got worse and the water was getting more stained.  I decided to try somewhere else.  The wind was blowing upriver and the waves were a challenge.  I ducked into Goose Creek to get out of the chop.  There were a couple guys crappie fishing at the mouth.  I didn't go far and decided to try the ned for whatever would bite.  There was a tree floating near a small feeder creek and I casted near that.  The second cast, it felt like I might have gotten snagged, but it was a fish.  I set the hook and the boat was in an awkward position.  The fish surfaced behind the boat, but I did not get a good look.   I thought it might have been a decent LM, but then it started dogging me, pulling drag and diving under the boat.  It went around the boat, just staying down and surging under the baot.  I thought it might have been a catfish, but when I finally saw it, it was a nice smallie.  I finally got it in the net and it was a hefty 18.5"er.

It put up a great fight on my light action rod and I revived it for a minute before it swam off strong.

I thied the ned and a grub and hookd a small LM that got off and then hooked this 14.5" smallie on the grub, close to the boat.

I floated out and ran back to the place I started.  I was casting a tube and difting out of an small eddy with some rock and hooked about a 12 inch smallmouth that I did not take a picture of.  I tried several spots, but no bites on tube, jig, ned, grub or smaller spinnerbait.  Nice day that was chance of rain 38%, then 50%, then 70%, then 15% but no rqin.

Saw Eagles, hawk, lots of birds, ducks, a few cormorants and one seagull.  Nice day to be out.

Water looked good when I got the boat this morning...

Kudos to you for tellin' the weather forecaster to stick it where the sun don't shine. Well done.

Time to go fishin' again!
