George and I met up with CT Campbell at 7:15a at the "Farm", the takeout place.

Withing 30 minutes, we are on the water.

CT's boat.

The weather was spectacular. Started in the mid 60s and ended in the low 80s. We had a slight breeze at times which was nice.

CT told us that fishing had been tough through the hot weather days...tonight he texted me that this was the best day in the last 2 weeks!

And George reminded me that I picked a full moon to go fishing.

Well, we would debunk all of that.

We had a steady bite all day including a couple of nice large mouths. Mine jumped a little but George's thought it was a smallie, coming clear out of the water.

We also noted the lack of BG action until I finally caught one.

We could feel them biting but only one taker!

All in all, we probably caught 6-7 dozen smallies!

The one thing I always say, and George concurred today, these fish fight hard and know how to get to cover...fast. They are strong because the river is not very wide and the current is fast in most places. We (me mostly) also lost quite a few before we saw them. Crafty critters!

Of course, the scenery is spectacular!!

I told George that I would drive the limo down if he made lunch for me.

Never disappoints!

Towards the end, we saw what we thought was a familiar hat and boat, sure enough after I yelled at him to stay off my water, we noted that it was Herschel Finch!

He was with a couple of fellas from the Old Dominion Fishing Club. A lot of joking back and forth on the water for sure!

We got off a little before 4pm and on the way home, George and I were tired and happy with our day!

Yeah, my sandwich just wasn't big enough for me LOL

What a beautiful day. Bald eagles were everywhere. Cidada's and Katy-dids songs entertained us all day. Even had a mini-bikini hatch on the water.

First time I've ever floated in a drift boat, and I was impressed. Boat was light as can be and drafted almost no water. We went over rock beds that I would have bumped bottom in my kayak and the drift boat floated right over them. CT knew his boat and the river. Highly recommend him

Thank you Ernie for being our photographer. I failed in that job - didn't even pull out the camera once. Probably because we had little down time between harassing the fish and enjoying the banter and conversation. What a great day

Took a shower when I got home, had some dinner and slept like a rock for the next 9 hours.

I have to force myself to take pics on this float. There are so many targets...shore or middle. It just doesn't matter. Sometimes you get one in an eddy and sometimes you get one in fast water.

You don't realize how tired you get with all that casting. Fun day for sure!

Great report guys! The river is beautiful and having an expert guide you makes it 100% awesome considering your guys were slaying them all day. The sandwich as first looked a little light, but I realized it probably had the right balance of everything.....then I wanted george to make me one too!

LT and Onion was dressed nicely in it's own wrap.

Cheese: American, Swiss and Cheddar
Meats: Ham, turkey corned beef

Each an individual layer of meat, cheese, repeat

Dijon mustard in the middle to keep the bread from getting soggy

Lettuce, tomato, onion, salt and pepper separately wrapped and added to the sandwich right before it was eaten.

It was a meal. I didn't even eat dinner that night.

Nicely stacked george! I like the way you think when it comes to sandwich making. I need to practice the same layering system for work sandwiches.

I like either a hoagie dressing or submarine dressing on the sandwich too. Either add to the layers or the rabbit food so the bread don't get soggy

Play around with various meats and cheese such as asiago or prosciutto. Pastrami, cornbeef, swiss and white American is a great starter too

I grew up with the idea of the "dagwood" (showing my age) so I think that includes all of the above!! haha
