7/23/25 River

Jimmy and I decided to try putting in at White's Ferry for a change.  HE met me at 5:00am and we were on the water around 6:00am.  Water started out at 4.26 feet at Point of Rocks and Water temp was around 80 degrees.  Water was a lot more stained than I hoped.

We started close by and were looking for a topwater bite with Whopper Ploppers.  Jimmy tried my little buzzbait also.  Not hits on those, but I caught about a 13 incher on a spinnerbait.

We made a run.  Weather was nice with some clouds.

We ran up to a fishy looking area and dropped the anchor.  I tried the plopper and Jimmy was tossing a flatworm when he hooked up.  We got the fish in the boat and got one pic.

The anchor was slipping in the fast current and we eventually moved from there.  After that, we struggled to get bit.  We both lost a couple fish and Jimmy caught a couple smaller fish.

The challenge was having a lure with enough weight to make bottom contact without getting snagged too much.  I finally had Jimmy set with a wobblehead and Speed Craw.  I kept trying different things. Spinnerbait, crankbaits, chatter style bait and various plastics.  Jimmy had me 4 to 1 for a while.  We noticed that the MD side was less stained and eventually found an area that looked really good Just before we were about to call it and get lunch.  I had one bite and then Jimmy caught 1.

The Bald Eagles were out in force.  We saw about 6 different ones.

I think I caught one small one and Jimmy had 7 already.  We worked that area and then I had one hooked and when Jimmy went to get the net, he hooked one too. I grabbed the net and was able to net his fish while mine was still on the line.  I gave him the net and then after he grabbed the fish I netted mine.  They were both nice fish, but his was bigger.  Jimmy tried to get a picture of our double, but it did not come out too well.  Got some good pics of Jimmy's after.

That was the big fish for the day.  Jimmy missed a couple fish and then said he had one on.  He reels in a tiny bass (maybe 6 inches) that was somehow hooked on the side.  So the count was 8 to 3 and he is hooked up again.  I net it and see it's a Walleye.  I tell Jimmy not to lip it and watch out for the gill plates.  He had a firm grip behind the gills.

The crazy thing is that Jimmy had the same jig and craw on the whole day, despite getting snagged around 4 or 5 times.  The craw was the ticket.  We called it after that and got lunch at the grill before heading home.  Off the water around 1pm.  No food pictures.  I had the Grilled chicken sandwich and he had the spicy grilled chicken sandwich.  Good day on the water.  Figured them out late in  the fast and mostly muddy water.  Water dropped to 3.77 feet by the end of our trip.
