I got out solo for an early morning shot at topwater action.  The forecast was all over the place and I knew it would rain at some point.  I was the first one and launching was uneventful. 



I made it to my first spot and threw the plopper a few times with no bites.  There were no fish busting either.  I did have one small fish miss it.  I quickly changed to a custom painted balsa wakebait I have had for a long time.  A few casts later I was on.





Then another.  You can see the bait pretty well.





And one more with that bait.  If you look closely, you see the bill is completely broken off.





I switched to a different wakebait.  It worked.





I caught a few smaller ones that I did not photo.  The bite died there and I made a move. 

There were fish busting mid river near rocks.  They were feeding heavily.  I got into position and tried the plopper and wakebait with no takers.  The fish were upriver from me and pretty much some in every direction.  There was one spot that kept getting busted on, so I dropped the anchor to stay in that area.  I cast a z-man hula stix to the spot and fish on.  These were not big fish, but they were hungry.



















That bite finally died off and I started floating.  It got slow for a while.  I was watching the clouds build up.  I tossed out a craw style bait on a wobblehead jig and was dragging it as I floated.  It wasn't long until something strong grabbed it.  I fought it for a couple seconds and it was off.  I reeled in to see the bait was bitten in half.  I put a z-man GOAT on and threw it back out.  Again, it wasn't long before I got bit.  I got this one in.  Not real big, but a strong fight with several jumps. 



This looked like a pattern, so I did it again and missed one and then got my biggest of the day.  There was water on the lens of the phone I guess, so the picture is blurry.  Nice 18"er.





Itried for a few more minutes before I decided to get off before the rain.  Off the water by around 8:45am with around 22 fish caught.  It started sprinkling on my way home.
