Back on the river

The Doah Is finally back down to fishable level after that extremely high water event last week.   So I texted a friend from work to see if he wanted to get out and catch a few. River levels were a touch high and a touch fast but nothing dangerous even in a kayak. I had pretty good expectations for the day thinking they could be hungry between getting ready for winter and the river finally backed down. Didn't quite turn out that way

As we were beginning of the float and getting things organized, a guy floated by and caught one. I yelled for him to not catch them all and asked how the fishing was. He said it was pretty slow.

Starting off I was throwing the reliable Brown crankbait, spinnerbait, fluke, swimbait, and buzzbait.  My buddy was throwing a chapo and I forget what else.  We floated for about a mile before I had one hit a plastic crawdad, as it was a little too stained for the fluke. Didn't hook up but did end up getting the skunk off the boat with about a 14 on the crankbait. Then just kept floating and casting which was the theme of the day..

I picked up a few dinks on the crawdad and then we got to bigger Eddie area that always holds a nice fish. The The last time the two of us loaded to stretch. He lost a nice one in that. Eddie. I was making a cast at the end of it and thought I was hung up on the bottom. Then I felt The head shake and got a good look when it came to the top. I looked like a. Solid 18 -in plus smallmouth and like it happens occasionally, he simply popped off. That one definitely hurts

A little bit after that my friend got his first one in the kayak on a fluke and that was his only fish for the day. I managed six, with two on the crankbaits and four on the plastic crawdad.

It wasn't the banner day I was hoping but both of us enjoyed the time on the water like always. We did see a couple bald eagles which is always cool.

Monday is a holiday for me so I'm going to probably try to get back out there

Sometimes you're the fly

Sometimes you're the windshield

Good news is you got out and felt some tuggage
