Finally back on the water

Due to work and life in general, I hadn't been on the water since 8:00 at the end of May with George so I rectified that over the last 2 weeks. Between the last week of June and earlier this week, I was on the river three times with two solo outings and a float.

First was a solo outing last Tuesday. Went to an area of the river that had plenty of faster water and currents between two deeper holes. Launched pedaled upstream through the first hole so I could focus in the shallower water that would have more flow and oxygen.  The good news is the fish wanted my fluke, the bad news was I couldn't get him to stay hooked. I know there were some small ones in there but still just couldn't get them hooked. Ended up catching half a dozen on a smaller z-man swimbait in George's favorite color.

The next day was a float with a friend from work. We floated about a 4 and 1/2 to 5 mi stretch that I knew would have some water in it considering the river is getting low. We met at 7. :00, was fishing by about 7:45 and finished up about 1:00. It's a little slow starting off for me, my friend picked up One or two first on  smaller Whopper plopper which turned out be a reliable lure for both of us. When we made it down to first good area that l had current, some depth and is also a good winter area. I finally managed to land my first fish of the day. This one nailed the  Brown and orange crank beets right in a current area and went 17"_.

Little later I told my friend let's hit this small stretch of shady shoreline with rock before paddling up to next good area at the end of the pool.  Earlier I had tied on the large Choppo and he was looking forward to me catching something on it.  First cast to that shoreline and after a few start and stops, the water exploded at the edge of the shade.  Few minutes later and this nice 17.5 was in the kayak.

After that, we caught fish on whopper plopper, choppo, swimbait, crankbait and rapala minnow in areas with current and oxygen.  Each of us got 12-13 with rest all 10-13".  A good day on the river.

Then a solo outing yesterday with taking the day off to give myself a longer weekend.  Hit it from 10-1 before it got really bad out.  Went to another area with a little of current and oxygen.  Started working upstream ashady shore with choppo, small swimbait and crankbait.  Got a few nips on swimbait and then landed a small one.  Best of the day was this one that blew up on the choppo in the shade.

Ended up catching another six or seven. Once I went up to a bigger size swim be ads and put the fluke on. The next biggest one about 13 and hits of fluke right at the end of so much water.

After not being out, basically the month of June, felt good to be back out

Great job on all counts.  Getting out there is 90% of the challenge.  Catching fish is the 10% that is the icing on the cake.
