June 29 Fishing Quantico

Got out Saturday morning before things got hot.  I have a lot more comfort going to quantico because it's just hard to get into and so I don't fight with crowds.  Something I'm realizing I hate more and more as I get older and especially after covid (like gas station pumps, I never realized how nasty people were).

Anyway, got out early just before 7 and the Officer Candidate school was graduating this years group so everyone was on duty when I came in and launched.  It was pretty cool because they had the artillery shots as well as the marching band.

I like to work my same area of the creek right next to the train tracks and the airfield since it's just a calming place to enjoy.  I guess I'm a creature of habit because I find myself always enjoying the same area.  I also added a micro anchor pole on the yak and I have to admit that I've been using it a lot.  It really has made my fishing experience much better being able to stay in the zone as long as I want.

Here is a video of my morning there with snakehead, bass, carp, trains, cannons! lol.  I had a lot of misses by the blind fish and caught a few more fish, but didn't bother with the camera.  I find that the angle of the camera is perfect on my vest by my left shoulder.  I just need to angle it up higher.

I ended up giving my snakehead to a couple who were fishing for eaters (and hadn't caught anything yet).  They were thrilled to get it since they were shore fishing and made the effort to get on base with all the check in required (check in at front gate, check in at OCS gate, check in physically with officer on duty, check in on line with isportsman).

Also, just to share what I'm using.  It's a ribbit frog (thin and flat) with 20lb spiderwire braid on a st croix mojo bass 7 something rod with shimano vanquish 1000 reel.  So far it's my favorite rod setup and am thinking about getting another one like it.

Re: June 29 Fishing Quantico

Last time I fished Quantico, they were doing artillery practice about a mile away.  Always made me wonder if a stray shell would come over the hill ....

Also saw some Marines in full camo going through the hills next to the lake with their weapons.

Pretty cool place to fish.  We didn't catch anything but largemouth, but a 4" grub on a jig head gave us plenty of action.

Nice place to avoid the crowds.

I fish Quantico alot and agree. The solitude is worth dealing with all the regulation required.
