I agreed to drive my daughter to her 6am shift and figured I could try some shore fishing. I got there and started fishing by about 6:10am. Water was clear and pretty low. No activity on the water. I started with the tiny popper. I fished that for about 15 minutes or so, but no bites. Then I tried the big TRD for a while. Nothing. There was not really any fish activity nearby except minnows. I figured I would try the popper again.
On about my second cast, something just slurped it off the surface. I reeled down and set the hook and it was a nice fish. I fought it carefully on my 6 pound test. No jumps, but strong pulls and runs. I saw it was a big smallie and walked it back to shore.

I did not bring my bunk board, but remembered I brought my scale. It was 4.22 pounds!
I fished for a little while longer, but no bites. I could feel my back tightening up and then my competition took over.
Off the water around 7:10am.

Nice fish!

Great reason to take your daughter in early! That is a chunky fish. And good call to end it early on a high note. no reason to push it.

I forgot that that is a hand-tied rear treble I did after the original got destroyed last year.
