5-20-24, Lake Frederick

Bob and I fished a new lake (for us anyway) with Jason Ford on his excellent boat, a Ranger aluminum w/ 115 HP.

For once, I beat everybody there! lol

If I had noticed that we were this close to a full moon (in 3 days), I would have changed dates. mad

The place looks great and there are some nice bass in there (we saw a bunch): "Lake Frederick is an unincorporated community located in Frederick County, Virginia. The primary geographic feature is a 117-acre lake impoundment owned by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries."  And speaking of DWR, they came by trying to shock up some blue back herring (which are not supposed to be in there).

Anyway, we caught a 1/2 dozen fish. No biggies. It was really slow.

We talked to one fella on the water and he was struggling. When we took out just after 1p, we talked to another fella and he had caught one.

That makes you feel just a hair better but we were all frustrated by the lack of bites.

It's fishing...better than being at home or at work!

Edit- I forgot to add that I really like fishing on other people's boats!!

That lake is very tough.  Deep and heavily pressured.  Fished there many years ago.  Good job!

We were in one of the arms, very shallow area. Saw some cruising bass. I swear I hit one of them with my bruised banana and he just kept going, didn't even flinch. I did have 2 of them come in for a look at my bait and sniff it but no commit.

Bass are the wrong color LOL

Glad to hear you two got out

Another vote for heavily pressured.  Fished there more than a few times out of a kayak and canoe.  We had one good day. Big fish were deep in structure.  Small grubs & swimbaits were the ticket.  Lost allot of tackle.  The rumor was they drop old Christmas trees and they are very snaggy

There were 4-5 boats out on the day we went. Jason had a good outing one day last week so who knows.
