5-17-24, Out of Solomons

When the wind is from the east, the fish bite the least.

Well, that's what happened today but we worked hard to catch some nice ones!

Greg, Andrew and I met up with my good friend Dennis at 8a to fish the Pax River and Ches Bay.

Dennis was not able to get ice so we made a quick stop to get some. In the meantime, on his 1st cast, he was able to the this 27"er!

So off we went and the boys were able to get a few...

... along with a couple of cow nose rays!

They are a beast to bring boat side. Andrew's shoulder was burning! No lifting weights for a couple of days.   big_smile

I was the designated picture taker on this stop.  cool

We then moved to another place and I was able to score.

We then headed over to the eastern side of the bay (a 10 mile boat ride plus another 5 miles to the cut)!

The fishing over there was slow but the boys managed to catch a few small stripers. Then, Andrew made a cast and I said, "hey, that's where I was going to cast!" In a split second, he gets hooked up to this nice, fat speckled trout!

We all got hits as we fished a beautiful area!

And then Dave hooked up! lol

While the fishing was not hot and heavy, we all had a blast and the banter was world class!

I really like fishing on other people's boats!!

We all thoroughly enjoyed the day. We were back on the road by 3p.

Time to go fishin' again!

Looks like a fun day with some nice fish!  My dad used to keep his boat in Solomons many years ago.  Nice memories.  Including 12 Jumbo crabs for $12.

Ha! We left Dave behind remember? We blamed him for slow fishing. Greg is still Greg!

It was funny that Dennis kept calling you Dave. No matter how many times we corrected him. And Andrew was Andy! lol

Great report. I'm dying to fish the shallows on the other side of the bay. So much amazing looking habitat over there.

What were you catching on?

Wow, some really nice areas over there.  Big specks too!  It's always better on someone else's boat for fishing. hahaha

I caught mine on a regular dart jig head with a fluke like soft plastic. pretty much what we normally through for jiggin striper.

Greg used a float popper thingie majigger. first time fishing that rig but apparently its a well known and popular way of catching speckled trout.

I throw popping cork rigs all summer, one of my fav ways to catch trout and reds. In fact a cork and super fluke is what I caught all my trout on last weekend.
