With high hopes Capt Dave and I headed down to Lake Marion for a week of awesome bass fishing. Checked in to our VRBO and got up before dawn and launched from the nearest ramp.
We fished hard and about 11:00 am I got a small bass on a fluke outside some cypress trees. Repeated the pattern but no more bites. Heat was too much so we headed in about noon.
Next day we launched at Eutaw ramp and fished brickyard and Bass Island. Yea Bass Island should have some fish with a name like that. Zeroed on Monday.
Taco Tuesday we fished even further down the lake and saw some clear water and no fish swimming around. Tried all kinds of baits but Zeroed again.
Wedensday we drove around the lake and put in close to the dam. Thought was the bass are deep. Fished the entire rip rap in 20 feet with deep cranks, c-rigs and even some spooks. Zeroed again.
Even threw a cast net to get some bait for catfish. Zero luck there.
Thursday we went catfishing. I had seen some big cats swim by while fishing Eutaw area so we went back to that exact spot. Bait was live herring. But they all died overnight. Staked out in 4 feet of water we tossed them out on catfish rods we had on board. Also rigged a float and jig on another. Had three run offs before we hooked up. I caught a big gar that slashed my index finger and required first aid. Brand new first aid kit on board was used and we where back to fishing.
If you look in the top right of next pic you will an alligator swimming by.
Friday we went bram fishing. Yea thats how they say brim down there. Caught 40 or so different fish and a gar again.
In summary it was a great place to fish , just wrong time of year.

It's always nice to get away for a few days....I am sure a few Dirty Martinis were served.

Same as in Canada - 90dF days and 80dF water in Northern Quebec put them to sleep
Also nice to take the trip and catch some nice fish!

That is frustrating.

Great report. Sounds like a Spring trip might be the way to go.

Agree on the spring trip.
OR maybe a new adventure.

Next time your down there, give Tyler (my son) a call. He is in Charleston now. He can probably get you some local knowledge. Whenever he talks to me about Santee Cooper, he tells me it is a dangerous lake because of millions of submerged stumps, not one for pleasure boating.
