But they need that shallow, grassy, hot water area after they spawn.

I wonder if this is a "new" fish or a new resident.

We shall see.

5 or 6 years ago I had a big one swirl on a top water plug just above the Algonkian ramp on MD side in grass.

Re: Snakehead's in th UP?

I haven't seen any snakeheads yet but I did catch a ~18" flathead at the end of May just upriver from Lock 23. Cut its gills and tossed it back.

While fishing in the Cabin John area yesterday I was hopping tube and hooked up with something big. Definitely wasn't a smallie, first thought was maybe catfish but no rolling. Snankehead? Walleye?  Whatever it was it was staying deep.  Eventually it was stuck on the bottom, must've got into a hole or under a rock. Then it got to the point of being a solid snag with no budging at all.  Then my rod snapped right in the middle rather that the 12lb fluoro breaking.

Wow...maybe it had a nick or stress fracture. Or that fluoro is good stuff!

Most likely a huge catfish.  They can stay down and not budge much.  I had one pull my boat around at Roaches Run.
