7-1-22, UP

Bev and I were supposed to fish Monday but the rainy forecast scared me away especially after John and I got doused last week.

We always go to the Filling Co. for breakfast. They never disappoint. Much better than MickeyD, Wawa or Sheetz.

We got to the ramp and it was crowded with the morning regulars, Tom and Rich. We also chatted with a kayaker that was getting ready to put in. Two other kayaks were already out but no boats. But they all scattered.

We drifted close by to try some top water but it was dead. Bev did get one hit on the Plopper.

Finally, down by the ledge, he gets another hit and then a slurp!

Nice fattie! 1st goal accomplished.

After a few more minutes of no action, we decided to head up river. I was not all in on going up and we made 2 stops but the water was grungy and slow. Lots of green algae clumps coming down river.

So let's go burn some gas.

In our 1st spot, we got two hits but nothing. We then drifted some shallow water but it was not gonna be.

We beat the V behind a rock to oblivion and I finally got my skunk off.

Now it was time to hit some shade. We got some hits and I had a couple small ones on but they both came off.

As we are drifting towards a tree that had fallen in the water, we see a smallie chasing...no, attacking bait so Bev threw in the mix and got hammered. It was a great fight, lots of pullage!

I tried to make it 18.5" but it was just shy. A nice 18.25"er for Bev. His biggest smallie yet!

We had lunch on our minds as time was getting close to noon so we fished hard.

I got this one near wood as well.

Bev got a few nips but nothing else.

As time was running out, we looked for bubbles and I found some at the base of some wood. This guy obliged.

A healthy 16"er.

After getting snagged and looking at the radar, we decided to head back and see what would await us at the ramp...on the beginning of a holiday weekend.

The ride back was uneventful and refreshing.

We get to the ramp and...NOTHING! No one there. We were out of the water in no time and got the boat back in the barn.

Once again, I forgot to take a pic of our Cuban sammie (we split it) and fried plantains.

** NOTE**- If anyone goes to the Cubasi Bistro and eats an entire Cuban Sandwich, with no help, I will reimburse you for it. The sammie is colossal...and very good!

Water temps were 82dF near Algonkian and 80dF further up river.

A very satisfying day indeed!

Nice job!  Congrats to Bev!

I made the trip up there earlier in the week and caught a few, but my biggest excitement was a monster fish that I fought for at least 3 minutes, but never got a glimpse.  I had 6 pound test and a ML rod, so it was pulling drag and had me completely bent over most of the time.  I think it was a huge cat, but just guessing.  I managed 5 with a 19 inch kicker on the way back when the wind picked up.

Carp take off like a race car, cats just dog you! Always a thrill.

Let me know when you get it done! Strangely enough, they close at 7pm.
