5-10-22, Chesapeake Bay Veterans Wheelchair Accessible Boat Trip

Well...we were supposed to go on a striper hunt today but got a call from the Captain while in route saying that it was a bit sporty out on the bay and that we should cancel.

I've learned to listen to the Captain as they know best so I pulled over and called everyone (who were on the way there) to turn around and go back home.

Frustrating but it was the right call.

Better to err on the side of safety.

Absolutely! We had  a couple of fellas that were coming that have fairly serous injuries (TBI, wheelchair). I talked to the Captain while I was on the road and we quickly made the call to cancel.

Everyone was disappointed but understood and agreed.

I bet all the stuff coming down from the rivers doesn't help at all.

It's not there yet....not at Point Lookout (mouth of the 'mac). It will take a few days.

We’re 100+ miles from there. Warm and sunny here. For now.

We’ve caught 2 more, a throwback and a 27”er…or so.

No…we said no suits. Slow but beautiful day. Storms are 30 miles south of us. We got a few sprinkles but that was all. Full moon time!!

Re: 5-10-22, Chesapeake Bay Veterans Wheelchair Accessible Boat Trip

The weather was great, the crew was fantastic but we had a full moon (that's my excuse) and that caused the fish to be less hungry.

But ya know, it ain't always about the fishing. It gets deeper than that.

I guess you had to be there to experience what we did. One of the fells has severe TBI and you would never know it. even though he also has some physical issues. He, along with everyone ales, was always at the ready when we had to deploy of pick up the baits. We trolled 22 lines! It was like a carefully orchestrated field operation.

We all had a blast!

The storms held out until we were driving home and we were thankful for that.

Here is the picture story...

We'll start with the morning shot and Capt. Greg.

Re: 5-10-22, Chesapeake Bay Veterans Wheelchair Accessible Boat Trip

It was a great time for sure. And it was a long day (drove 265 miles) but it was worth it.

I picked one of the guys in Newington and when we got him home, I reported to his wife that he talked about stuff all the way home as we drove through the storm. The 1st time I met them (at the Fall trout event) she told me he didn't talk much. Well, I think fishing has opened him up! Plus, on the boat,  he was always at the ready...just like a good soldier would be.

We kept our eye on the storms and it was amazing. They were tracking south and north of us...leaving us alone.

Fantastic to see and hear!  You did a great job with those folks.  Lots of smiles.  I think you have a future in skirt combing. smile

I was taught by one of the best, Capt. Jeff Hammett. He was meticulous about his skirts. Every time I was on his boat, he got me doing the skirts after we were done fishing. And scrubbing the floors as well! lol
