What a great day and what a great time despite slow fishing.

Water temps were 77-78df. Air temps reached the mid 80's around 2 pm. We quit at 3p.

Winds and chop were light. The fish just did not cooperate. The small flies were nasty!!!

Many laughs were had especially when we discovered that there were bananas on board. Peter had never been out on a boat like this and did not know the lore. He thought we were kidding. Then Millie says, "it's you over the side or the bananas". He handed the bananas to us and over they went. You can see the pic below.

This boat, The Redeemer, is a special ministry. The crew, Capt. Greg and Steve, are top notch folks. Bob got to me 2nd Mate today.

The Army was represented by Millie, Terry and Steve. The Navy was represented by Bob, Carol and Ernie. The Marines were represented by Tony. We even had the Italian Army represented by Fabio!

Who knew spending the day on a charter boat while NOT fishing could be so enjoyable? Really a fun bunch of vets and crew. Thanks Ernie for what you do.

Re: 9-18-21, Chesapeake Bay Veterans Wheelchair Accessible Boat

We just found out that Capt. Greg Drury, the skipper of the Redeemer, passed away suddenly on Friday night. He basically donated his time to take these folks out fishing.

He's the one in the light blue t-shirt (kneeling) on the right.

What a shocker, he was a nice guy and way too young to pass away.

Re: 9-18-21, Chesapeake Bay Veterans Wheelchair Accessible Boat

This was on the Fish Redeemer's FB page today:

Tribute to Captain Greg Drury

When we picked up Redeemer from Composite Yacht last year (2020) to bring to St. Jerome’s Creek, we had no captain in place to run the boat.  We had been in discussions with a captain as the boat was being built, but his interest waned.  As we literally arrived at the Marina in St. Jerome’s Creek and backed the boat into the slip, Greg was at the dock.  After hearing the purpose and mission of the boat and that we were in need of a Coast Guard approved captain, Greg uttered “I think I can help you.”  God’s providence.

Since that day, it has been a joy and a blessing to partner with Greg in having him run the boat for fishing parties or a photo shoot, securing our Coast Guard inspections, interacting with whomever was on board and even giving some fish cleaning lessons to a young man.

Captain Greg passed away this fall and it has been our honor and privilege to work alongside him and get to know him more and come to a greater appreciation of him.  He was an integral part of Redeemer’s operation and we will miss him dearly.
