5/11/19 Quick trip between storms

I got out this morning for a few hours.  We got some thunderstorms last night and are due for at least an inch and a half more rain through Monday.  The river actually dropped since I was out Thursday and was below 6 feet at Point of Rocks.  I was on the water a little after 7:00am and saw it was pretty muddy.  I ran up just a little and worked an island that usually gets muddy last.  There was about 6 inched of visibility.  I just put the anchor out and started fishing.  I quickly found out a spinnerbait was not really an option mostly due to flow.  I mostly alternated between a swim bait on one of Hookup's SWM heads (1/4 oz.) and a black and red flake tube.  I worked down the shoreline slowly and just let the current sweep the baits into the rocks.  It was a few hours before I got a bite, but finally a chunky 16.5"er hit the swim bait.  I was glad to get the skunk out.

It was a while before I got another bite.  I worked down to a similar section with an eddy that washed into deeper water with rocks.  Hit was very similar, but this one did not fight quite as hard.  It was a 17.25" smallie that looked spawned out.  Long and skinny and bit the swim bait.

I fished for a while longer and ate my lunch at the end of the island.  I somehow lost my anchor when the chain link attachment opened up.  Not sure how that happened, but I just bought a new one.  I owe George one as he lent me that one.  Weather was comfortable with mostly cloudy skies and a steady breeze out of the North East.  The water was really pretty muddy and I figured I was done, so I got off the water about 1:00pm.
