Upper Potomac 5/2/19

I got out about 7:15am and it was very foggy.  I thought it would be a great day with rising air temps and no rain.

The fog was so dense, I could not go far.  I tried a few casts with different baits, but no luck.  I headed up a little further and started fishing an island.  The water was more stained than the day before, even though we did not get any rain.  I finally caught one on a tube.  It was a thick 13"er.

I did not catch any more and the fog was thinning, so I ran upriver.  I checked the MD side, but it was almost muddy.  I went back to the VA side and just floated the island there.  The water was green, but visibility was anywhere from 1-2 feet at best.  I tried different baits, but finally hooked a couple on a ned head with a hula stick.  Biggest was 13".

I thought it was going to be mostly cloudy, but it got sunny and hot.  The fishing slowed to a stop.  I ate my lunch and worked the shade a little.  I decided to head back toward th ramp and work the shore closer to the ramp.  I hooked a fish tossing a keitech fat impact on a SWM head behind a blowdown.  I never really got a good hookset and it pulled off after running under the boat.  I lost one more fish and hooked a smaller one on the tube before calling it quits.  I was off the water by 2pm.  I keep saying this, but I think they are spawning because the bite is really off.  I was glad to hook any.

We were out yesterday a mile or 2 below you shaking down the park's bass jet. It was indeed funky.
Both sides were muddy but the middle was cleaner. Jerks and tubes were catching them.
