Bob and I had set this date to fish a couple of weeks back. On Friday, the river was supposed to crest at 8.3' so I told him that unless we had a miracle, that we would be staying home.
John had gone out last week when the water was high (way up river) and his pics indicated that the water was green. Nice color. High but lots of clarity.
So...today, the three of us went.
River level was 6.3' at POR when we took out. I used to say that 4.5' was my max. Apparently, that number is now 6.3'!
We stared fishing the ledge up front but had no luck there despite a couple of passes so we headed to the honey hole from yesterday and Bob quickly got the skunk off the boat with a 15'er!.
He then connected with a 17.25'er!
But we got nothing else here so we made a move upriver to a rocky outcropping that looked completely different from what we are used to seeing.
We settled in and all of the sudden I felt like I hooked a log because it did not move much but I could tell it was a fish. After a brief battle, John scooped it up for me. I forgot to get the length but the weight was 4.9lbs!
I then caught a 15'er.
Bob went up 4-3 and it stayed like that for a bit.
We went back down river and I got a solid bite from a very solid 17.75"er!
A little later, I had one on but he came unbuttoned. Bob says, "good, you didn't pass me"!
The wind kicked up around moon and by 2pm it was getting obnoxious...plus it helped to wear down the TM batteries so we called it a day.
Another winter fishing learning lesson today. The fish are where we expected them to be and a few surprises.

Well, it was not "that" cold even though I looked all bundled up. History shows that as long as we can start when it's in the 40s (and moves into the 50s & 60s), I am OK. I just don't like those freezing temps....and wind.

When I say that to my CA friends, one says "Well, if you bang your head against the wall enough times it starts feeling good"

I chatted with my mom just a few minutes ago. She is in Key Biscayne FL and was telling me how nice and cool it was today. It was 72. Their high was 76 and the low was 68. Those who will be going out to dinner tonight will be wearing jackets and scarves!

Roughing it down there!

Nice work - I've never tried fishing UP/Goose this time of year ... may need to remedy that after seeing these posts.
