I passed several deer and 3 were young bucks going to the ramp. Good sign I figured. I said hi to Bob who was waiting on Ernie. I checked out the point, but no fish. I ran up to a little chute way up river (eventually) and the Cormorants beat me to it. I started floating an island and found fish in wood near shore with deeper water. First one was about 11inches, then I hooked this nice 18.5" on a finesse swim bait on a SWM jig.
I thought I was on to something, but I was catching smaller fish on the swim bait and tubes. I lost a few fish, but nothing felt really big.
I tried a small crappie jig spinner in a tree limb and hooked a healthy 17" LM.
I kept catching fish sporadically, but smaller fish. I ended up catching one 15" and one 16" smallie on tubes before the bite died off.
No fish caught (I did get bites) after 3:05pm. I just floated and fished until 6pm. Wind kicked up in the afternoon. Very nice day! Finished with 17 total. I had quantity, Ernie got the consistent quality.

6pm? Holy smokes! That's a long day of fishing...I used to be able to do that but that was a long time ago.
Nice catching though....

A day fishing for naught? Impossible! I think fishing every day has made you jaded

I meant the extra 3 hours I stayed without catching fish. I did have something happen that really bothered me. I have had some guys cut in front of me while floating before, but yesterday's was the worst. I was floating an island very slowly using a drag chain. This guy motors up right toward me from the middle river. At first, I thought it was Ernie, as we sometimes give progress reports and say hello. It was a black Express boat with 2guys in it. After getting close, they move on behind me a ways to float. A little while later I see they are drifting pretty close behind me. I keep looking back to see what they are going to do. They finally troll around me and go immediately in front of me. I just looked at them. They did not say anything. I think they thought I was anchored, as I was drifting closer to them. Finally, they started floating further away. Blatant.

I think they moved in behind us at one point but they moved on in a few minutes. Had another one get in front of us while we drifted but he was 150 yards downstream and also moved out quickly.
We saw at least 6 boats yesterday which is unusual for a Tuesday....
Lots of running and gunning. No patience.
Last week, while Jimmy was backing down the ramp to retrieve me, a guy in an expensive jet came right behind him and backed down the ramp. He knew what he was doing. I mentioned that he came a bit close to my trailer while it was coming down the ramp and he just shrugged. No patience. They own the river.

If that was the guy with the black inboard jet, he is the guy I got into it with a couple years ago. HE waits for no one. The guys wo cut me off were about 20 feet away on either side. There were a lot of boats out for a Tuesday. Hopefully, we did better than them!
