Speedy Recovery, Ernie!

Hope all went well and you can get back on the water relatively soon!  We will try to keep the fish occupied in the meantime.

Re: Speedy Recovery, Ernie!

Thanks.....all went well, had a mess back there......looks like I can’t ride my bike for 3 months. Takes that long for bone to regenerate solid. Still negotiating as to when I can fish in a boat or kayak.

But I have to take my 1st steps, that’s coming by lunch hopefully.

I’m hopeful for lots of fish stories and pics from you guys!

Re: Speedy Recovery, Ernie!

Two walks today, one doubling the other in distance (number of hallways). One more walk later tonight and then stairs tomorrow morning. Looks like they will let me go tomorrow pm.

Good doc, nurses and staff!

Re: Speedy Recovery, Ernie!

Just did after my longest walk. Off Percocet and on to Tylenol.

For those that are medically inclined, here was my diagnosis:
1. Spondylolisthesis of lumbar region
2. Lumbar radiculopathy
3. Synovial cyst of lumbar facet joint

And the procedures:
1. L4-S1 posterior laminectomy
2. Posterior fusion
3. Posterior inter body fusion

All I can tell you is that the cyst was big and the nerve was black and blue which is what caused the intense pain. Now, it’s all gone. I will lose about 5% of range of motion but the 3+ months of PT that I did should get me back to neutral.

Everything is under the watchful eyes of my doc, nurses and PT specialists.

Re: Speedy Recovery, Ernie!

Makes me feel lucky that my back pain just comes from tight muscles and one muscle relaxant pill before bed will make it all good for months.

I finally got a line wet on Sunday and after tomorrow I should have an Occoquan report to go along with it.  I need to make stops in Springfield and Burke tomorrow after work so I figured I'll bring along the kayak for its first outing of the year.

Re: Speedy Recovery, Ernie!

The reason for all of this? Degeneration......old age!

Yeah, except when you start negotiating with them for faster recovery times and they don't agree with your timelines ;-)

Glad to hear it went well. Speedy recovery my friend.

Re: Speedy Recovery, Ernie!

Ultimately, the body is the best barometer. Not quite ready for Tylenol after my 3 hallway walks. Amazing how you go from near normal to zero after surgery.

Bryan- what I told some folks is that I had Roto Rooter of the spinal canal and a big fat pimple taken off the vertebrae (along with some bone).

PT just came by and we did stairs. She says, sloooow everything down. I will be moving in slow motion for about a month. Then, I can increase activities.
