Potomac River recon mission, 3-9-06

I went out early this morning on the original "Get Reel" which is owned by Keech Edelin. Capt. Jeff Hammett was also on board. We fished the Morgantown power plant for a few hours with no takers.

With all the reports about the water temperatures at Fletcher's (42-44 degrees), we needed to find out what was going on downriver. Stripers need at least 41-42 degree water to make a move.

Well.....we found out that the water temps in the main channel around the 301 bridge were 37-39 degrees. Close but no stripers coming up....yet. With the warm temperatures that are predicted over the next few days plus SW winds, all of this could change ASAP. Down at the mouth of the Potomac, the water temps are 41-43 degrees and will certainly rise over the next few days.

My wild guess is that some stripers may arrive at Fletcher's over the next 10 days or so. Normally, the white perch and herring show up 1st and then the stripers and the shad.

My 1st shot at them will be March 18.

We will keep you posted!
