8-13-17 UP Solo trip

I got out early and took the "Ernie shot" at the ramp.  What a Sunrise!

I saw a squirrel and a fox before I even got away from my neighborhood.  Then two small fawns lying in the grass at the park.  The morning started out slow.  Water was muddy on the shores and stained to green in the middle.  No topwater bites, so on to the swimbaits.  Caught a couple smaller ones, then lost one that turned the boat around.  Finally got this chunky 16.25"

Got into a flurry of bites with the swimbait and lost a couple nice ones.  Landed another, then switched to a chartreuse crank and hooked 3 in a row.  Landed one.

Caught another chunk smallie on a tube, about 15"

I did that drift a couple times and then just floated back to the ramp.  Caught maybe 10 or so, with most in the 12-14" range.  Tried topwaters, spinnerbait, Rebel Humpy and craw, with no bites.  Swimbaits on George's SWM jig, tube with rattle, 3" white BPS stick-o and chartreuse bomber Big-O clone connected.

Saw more deer, Ospreys, Eagles while on the water.  Off by 2pm to deal with the idiots.

Great day on the water!

I admire how you know the name of all of your baits......me, it's a craw colored square billed crank. No clue who makes 'em! Of course, I came name them if still in the package! roll

Nice work!

Re: 8-13-17 UP Solo trip

I got that bomber from you.  Charley Taylor's report said chartreuse Big-Os were working.  The one I got from you was defective and would spin.  I got it out last night and looked at it and the bill was crooked.  I filed it down quite a bit and used a lighter to try and straighten it.  I had no idea if it would swim with all the filing I did.  It swam great and I know it will catch more fish.  The fish were bottom-oriented.  I saw a few chasing, but most of the fish were caught bouncing the bottom.  Strong fish!
