Potomac 7/22

Went out on a friend's boat Saturday. We were on the water before 6. Found beautiful grass and clear water in Belmont Bay but no bass. Caught this one snakehead that flipped out of my hands and broke my Matt Davis custom frog rod about 5 seconds after this picture was taken mad . A few minutes later I hooked another snakehead 3 times this size but he threw my frog after a couple crazy jumps.

Hit the MD side and caught one decent bass on a senko and not long after that we started having engine trouble so we had to call it an early day. Always fun to get out there but hopefully we can get in a full day next time!

Sounds like a lot of fun!  Too bad about the rod and the engine trouble, but at least you got some crazy action.  I have to ask....what color lures you're using?!?!  My white and pumpkin just aren't doing it!

I used a white/green frog and a junebug senko. Didn't do enough fishing to discern a pattern though.

Ernie, there was a lot of really nice grass in Belmont and by the mouth of Chickamuxen.

I want a set of boots with that snakehead pattern on them.

And a shrimp silk shirt and four gold chains..

I lost about 5" off the top. I put a new tip on it, but it won't ever be the same hmm

On the same subject though, I broke another rod the weekend before last tongue. That one snapped about 2/3 of the way up. I was thinking of inserting a thin steel rod inside, sliding the pieces back together, holding it all together with epoxy, and covering the mess up with some heat shrink tubing. Do you think that will hold, or is it a lost cause?

Here's what it looks like at the break:

Re: Potomac 7/22

I have used an old fiberglass insert and it worked great. Add a two part epoxy to the insert. And wrap with un-waxed floss. Then paint the two part epoxy on the floss.

It was not pretty but worked very well.

That sounds like a great idea. Do you remember where you got the fiberglass piece?

Re: Potomac 7/22

I have about 30 old rods I use for parts. Cut them up.. my old crappie cane poles have a nice slow taper to them.

Re: Potomac 7/22

Rod'll be a little faster but still fishable

Or if you can find a smaller piece of blank you can epoxy it in, then wrap up the break line - I usually do this further down from the tip top

Or best of all, gives you an excuse to buy another rod :-)

LOL got that right. It was the first thing I did.

I'm gonna see if I have an old rod I can harvest for pieces to fix this one.
