10-10-13, Chokoloskee FL

Mike and I had a fairly short window (10-3) but we took a shot anyway.

So we hit the highway for a 95 ride to the land of ten thousand islands (and 13 trillion mosquitos).

I think I need to tell the rest of the story 1st.

My flight from Dulles was at 5:25p. Everything was going fine, we taxied and t hen teh pilots announced they were illegal to fly. Really, like you didn't know that already? So back we went and they went looking for a new crew. Yep, they found one up in the hills somewhere and we were airborne at 10:45p.

By the time I landed, got my luggage (had to check it in due to all the fishing stuff I was bringing down for the Jupiter Lighthouse Wounded Heroes Fishing event on Columbus Day), got the rental and other weird stud that happened, I didn't get to bed until 3?  And then to get up at 6:30a.😴

Oh, and to top it off, my brand new iPhone froze up and I had no idea how to get it going again. Here I am in a foreign country (Miami International) and I have no way of communications. I need that phone for the Wounded Heroes event as I am one of the lead team.😱

Luckily, it reset itself after I charged it overnight and I was back in bidnes!😅

Anyway, the last time Mike was out, mother caught a bunch or reds and specks and we were exited.

We got to the 1st point and Mike put down the trolling motor (you need it for this type of fishingcommunities) but it did not work. Remote lit up but no prop movement. He then went to start the gas motor to move closer and nothing. OK, now what? It had already been a weird night of weird stuff and it continued.

When Mike trimmed the motor up, it would start. But it would not do so while the prop was in the water. So we just kept it running the whole time. Really great for the fishing.....😝

Each point got a few casts and then we would putter from spot to spot. When we saw activity, we would throw down the anchor. And then....the swarm of skeeters attacked us. Neither a mike and I are big fans so we called it a day early.

We did catch a few fish and I will spit the pics after I get back.

As we came back to the ramp, we were greeted with an unusually high tide and all the docks were under water. We got the boat on the trailer without too many issues.

A cool thing was that I noticed a fellow getting ready to put in and he looked familiar. Yep, Capt. Mark Hall and a buddy were going to do some fun fishing. I fish with Mark in Miami as do many other friends. Small world!

While this trip was not a resounding success, it was great to be fishing that area again.

It sounds like Murphy was along for the ride. But you made up for it.

Wow, tough luck for sure. Glad you kept a good attitude about it.  Just means you are due for a great one next time.

Murphy is only a temporary event and he/she can't mess with how cool that area is.

great report, Ernie!!

I'm sure you already figured this out but, if you want to restart your iphone, you can hold down the power and home button and you can force it to shut down.
