Re: farm pond

so the whole pond is covered in duct weed. along the banks of to about 2 feet deep, whatever that vegetation is the grows in the river is there. if you throw out into the middle of the pond, the splash of the bait opens all the tray closes itself within seconds , the duckweed closes like a mouth.
I throw the Senko out on light spinning gear. due to the duck weed you can walk it like a dog somewhere to hide you would fish a zara spook.
the pond must be dark at all times, because the duck weed is on it like a lid

Re: farm pond

I was catching plenty, of 12 and 14 inch bass.
lately I've picked up a few larger ones..

I've learned when fishing light spinning gear this way, to give a fish a chance to show itself
by this I mean keep enough pressure on the fish to keep it hooked, but be alert for big head shakes or that deep swimming bowling ball sensation

Re: farm pond

the fish realized it was hooked and started going into some pretty strong runs. I have the drag back way off and was finger braking it
the fish jumped and cleared the water a couple times. fortunately it was well hoiked.
the most challenging part was ever so gently towing it through the heavy grass thats that brought it towards shore.
it was a beautiful fish. naturally the pictures don't do it justice. it is laying in about 3 inches of lush clover and grass. it refused to have its picture taken. I had a measuring tape right there but it kept slipping away from it.
this is why I don't like taking pictures.

Re: farm pond

the fish was exhausted from the ordeal and from being towed through the grass. I had some trouble revising it when I tried to release it . the grass was so thick that the fish wasn't strong enough to swim through it. I ended up waiting into the water and rescuing the fish in the grass. I gave it a toss into be clear water beyond the weak line. the duckweed swallowed it up and I never saw it near the surface again. I sincerely hope the fish survived

Re: farm pond

OK, give me a weight for the non-AV leaderboard.  20" = 4.5 lbs using http://www.pacemakerfishing.com/forum/v … hp?id=978, but I know it is bigger.

Re: farm pond

I had the tape, but it wouldnt lay still. It was a beautiful fish. My gut says 5"lb8oz easy. It was built like a tuna. It ddnt have the giant head u see on a lot of farm pond bass.

For me (which is what counts) it was a top.ten lifetime experience. It might be partially due to the fact that I havnt seen many 5plus fish lately.
That bass was thick, thick, thick and without a blemish
