Re: NHBA/BRHS Joint Tournament

Here is Charlie Taylor's write up:

Our annual Joint tournament with the Broad Run High School Bass Club took place on Saturday, out of Leesylvania State Park.

Seven member of BRHS paired with seven boat owners from NHBA and proceeded to test the waters of the Potomac River for bass. The tide was incoming all day and statistically, the river has not been producing well at all over the past two weeks. Some folks found fish, however. The overall winner was Ian Hardesty, who, fishing with Tony Choi, managed to bring in a limit of fish, weighing 12.14 pounds. Ian also had the big fish of the day with a 4.36# bass.

The fish were caught from lily pad fields on Zoom! Horny Toads, Zoom Super Hogs and Gary Yamamoto Senkos. Second place was garnered by Tyler Folts, who also brought in a limit. His fish weighed in at 10.64#. Tyler, fishing with Ray Emery, caught his fish on Gary Yamamoto Senkos from lily pads and grassbed edges. Eric Corella managed to catch 2 bass, weighing 3.63# while fishing with John Crunkilton. His fish were good for third place. Brian Jacob put on a show, catching one bass, one snakehead and one channel catfish. He fished with Mark Light. The
others worked hard, but just didn't manage to catch any fish.

Times were definitely tough. There was a Wounded Warrior Tournament out of Aquia Creek with 105 boats. We were told that there was only one limit in the entire tournament. This bodes well for the Broad Run guys who had two limits from only seven anglers. Great Tournament.  All the Broad Run guys and all NHBA members who participated
are looking forward to next year when they can all get together again.

One of our stalwart members, Ray Emery, of Achieve, LLC, sweetened the pot with a company donation of $100 for the winners and another $20 for the lunker pot. Everyone wishes to thank Ray and his company for their generosity.

This tournament unfortunately, marks the end of the "Hill Era". First we had Charlie Hill, who was the first president of BRHS Bass Club. When he graduated and went on to college, his brother John Hill took over as president. Upon his graduation, another brother, Conner Hill, took over and ran the club. Conner graduated in June and will be going to college in the fall. Throughout the entire five years of our association, their parents, John T. and Carol Hill, have attended every activity and have been a strong supporter of their sons and fishing in general. We applaud their interest and involvement and thank them for being there for our club activities as well.

Re: NHBA/BRHS Joint Tournament

Way to go Ian.  I wonder if he was fishing the same way as the last NHBA tournament.  He was the only one to catch bass when I fished with him and his dad.
