Lake Anna, 12-15-12

Greg and Tyler joined me for some Lake Anna fishing. This would be their 1st time down there.

It was crispy this morning, just a hair above freezing when we got started. I had my full face mask on, I think Greg may have a shot of it.

Anyway, the intel was weak for today so we divided to head for the left side of the splits...

We looked around a lot and saw few birds, less than what Curly and I saw a couple of weeks back. After striking out, we decided to head over to the right side but there is a creek/cove just on teh west side of Stubbs Bride that I wanted to check out.

Then....Tyler spotted some circling birds and we eased up on the, Greg was up front and was making some long casts with a BA on a jig. Very soon, he declared "fish'!

Outstanding! His 1st keeper striper at Anna on his 1st day fishing there!   cool

Unfortunately, no more birds and no more fish....

So we went up to the left side where we saw a few marks but no hits. At one point, most of the screen was lit up but we couldn't even get a bump....disappointing but we pressed on.

After a quick oil stop, we decided to head down to Dyke 3 where the birds were.....tons of them!

But there was nothing under them so I headed for the dyke remembering that I had caught fish there before with Charlie Taylor. The water gets deep fast off the rocks and shortly after we started, Tyler caught one, his 1st Anna fish!

It wasn't too much later that he nailed another one....

But that was it.....we headed back to the birds to see if there was anything going on. They will drive you nuts at Anna!

But what else is new.    roll

We took out at 1:30 and stopped off at the BBQ place that has been beckoning me for a long time. It was good and their hot BBQ sauce is HOT! tongue

Great day on the water and a few 1sts.....nothing but good!    big_smile

Seems that Greg has that first-timers luck that I had down there with my first ever Anna fish being a striper.  Mine wasn't a keeper though.

Had a great day with Ernie and Tyler, as always.  Didn't catch too many fish, but always love being out with them on the boat.  AND I got my first Lake Anna Striper.  It was actually a team effort.  Tyler and Ernie got the assists, and I got the goal.  Ernie suggested we try that Cove.  Tyler saw the birds at the very back of the Cove, and I was lucky enough to be up front casting ahead and got the Striper.

It was COLD!

But worth it!

I can see how Lake Anna could be very frustrating.  We saw all the right signs (bait balls on the depthfinder and some birds) and still couldn't get a take except that one.

The BBQ was outstanding.  I should have taken a picture of Ernie eating the BBQ Sandwich with the Hot Sauce on it.  He was sweating like it was 110 degrees out!!
