Fishing with Capt. Bryan DeHart on his 23' Maycraft.
I met up with Rob and Bobby Rae Allen at 0530 and we we on the water by 0600.
The marshes down here are gorgeous and very fishy which we found out quickly as we caught specks, puppy drum and flounder.
But now, we are in a rain/lighting delay and just sitting around in the car waiting for it to pass. Hope it does so soon because I have to be at a wedding at 2!!
More later......

After an hour long delay, the sky opened up and the sun came out so we went left the creek and went back out to the sound.....only to be greeted by 15-18kt winds!
The other two boats who came out with us promptly went back in.....
Fortunately, Capt. Bryan knows these waters and we were able to ambush some nice points. Unfortunately, the wind was blowing us past these targets at a fast pace only allowing a couple of casts. Even when we were able to anchor, it was tough because of the swell....in the sound!!
Regardless, we were able to catch fish at a good enough pace to keep us in the game. Bobbie Rae caught a very nice keeper flattie (among many other fish as he had the hottest hand). Rob had a bend in his rod often and I was able to catch some on some rigs that I brought (Marsh Works baits) from home using a baitcaster.
I think all of us caught a slam (puppy, speck & flattie) but I did not complete mine until I declared "last cast". Talk about a last minute miracle!!
We came in at 11 and declared it a great day despite of the conditions that we were dealt!
Pictures up on Monday night!

Checking the radar.....
Hmmmmm...
But we caught a few....
Then it started changing....
But we kept catching....
Then CRACK...and back in the creek we went to wait it out...
But the skies parted after an hour and back to catching we went....
This creek mouth shows the wind swept swell pounding the shore...
But we still had some time left on the clock to catch a few more....
Lots of fish, lots of fun. great crew!
And...I made it back in time to get all dressed up for the wedding. The reception was held at the new Jeannette's pier. Spectacular venue!
Came back home today...leaving the OBX on Monday is sweet! Plus, got to stop and load up some BBQ at Pierce's. It will be even better in January when it is snowing.
BTW, I heard we were going to have a COLD and SNOWY winter. Arrrgh!!

Nice lookin fish. I love catching a mixed bag. That pier looks really cool too.

That new pier is state of the art....huge change from what used to be there. Apparently, the ball room is a hot commodity and booked out for a year.

Nice report and it makes me want to head down there before my retirement.
Did you get a beach driving permit?

Ernie -
Thanks for posting the report - It is always great fun to fish with you!
Bobby Rae really enjoyed the baseball conversation as well.
We had a trip earlier in the week on Wednesday with Bryan - and fished many of the same areas - it was a lot of fun too -
We added some other species to our catch - but did not catch as many Puppy Drum as we did on Saturday - the pups were really fun to catch as they were holding very close to the sodbanks -
The other species from Wednesday included:
Pinfish
Lizardfish
Houndfish
Searobin
Weakfish(Grey Trout)
Bluefish
Striper

I did not and we only saw 1-2 trucks on the beach. Not like it used to be.

An expression or is something happening?

I have had my eye on area lower in NC shoreline for many years. I would guide and work part time if we make the move. Harkers / Beaufort area and do some red fish and albies.. a wee bit offshore too.
Get in good with a bed and breakfast and bring clients down from DC area.
Already found some land to build a house but have not bought it yet.. just a few more years.
