Went out with a crappie jig after church after seeing Khanh's pics. Zippo at Beech and only a throw-back at Alder. Decided to try the dam at Ashburn........Glad I did! Bobber goes down hard and I think it's a nice bass......nope.....it's a huge crappie Finally get it through all the primrose weeds on the shore and it's a personal best.............weighs in at 2 pounds 1.5 oz and 16-1/4 inches long.
Huge filets for dinner this evening!
Now a new record crappie for Ashburn Lake.

That is a slab! What did you catch it on?
So.............have we accepted a kitchen scale as proof of weight in the past?

Caught on a little white crappie jig. Electronic scales teetered betwen 2-1 and
2-2. "Kitchen scales" that I use are very accurate and setteled at 2-1.5 with the fish in the pic. Hard to get pic of fish and be able to read the electronic scales at the same time ..............I bet there is a 3 pounder in Ashburn Lake!

I used to do fish taxidermy many years ago. Hardly anyone does skin mounts anymore.........it's all fiberglass reproductions now. Maybe I should get started in it again?

most of the crappie are stunted in lake ashburn
i have caught a few big ones , but in my experience the majority are too small to fillet.
i caught one a little smaller than that on a P&J by the spillway once.
some day sonar will help me find some cover not visible from the surface.
unless it is windy, they always seem to set up on an object
and certainly, a three pounder is possible
