12/3, Lower Potomac River report....only one number is important!

42.5

We wish it would have reached that temperature today!

Curly picked me up at 0450 and an hour or so later we were in Bob's truck with his boat in tow on his way to Piney Point MD. A little less than two hours later, we were at the ramp. Our target was stripers....our method was trolling....with 12 rods!

It was a beautiful but rather chilly morning but we were exited to get out on the river. Once we found our way to the fishing area, Curly and Bob started to deploy the spread while I got to sit and man the helm.....and take some pictures!

The planer board in action.....

The spread is out....

About 30 minutes after all the lines went out....zzzzziiiiing! One of the rods goes down and Curly is up to the plate so he gets to reel in the 1st fish! The fight goes on for a few minutes and the bigun' gets close to the boat!

42.5.....inches! And a FAT 35+ pounds!

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/IMGP1755.jpg

A couple of hours later, another rod goes down. I told Bob to get it (hey...it's his boat) but he orders me to bring in this beautiful and tasty to be 24 incher!

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/IMGP1757.jpg

We then spent several windy, cold and bumpy hours cleaning the lures (fish speak for not catching anything). We were starting to get chilly so we called it a day and brought the boat back on land....

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/IMGP1762.jpg

Bob wanted a "memory" so we took this shot.....

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/IMGP1763.jpg

...I was trying to make the 24 incher look bigger....but up close?

NO CONTEST!

Many thanks to Bob for the invite on the boat and his masterful handling of the spread. Catching a hog (hogette) like that is very special!

Nice job guys.  Getting cold so the big ones should really be in that area.

Getting cold is right.....1st time this year in full cold weather gear!

Most of the reports we heard on the radio were guys lamenting of not catching or only catching a few like us. According to the feeding calendar, yesterday was supposed to be good. Our good was the big one!

Oh well.....being on the water beats most things anyway!

Holy sh*....okay, this is a family forum.

It is official, time to take me out to celebrate the birth of my son.

That is a huge striper!

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!

By the way, does that require a filet chainsaw as opposed to a filet knife?! lol

Fillet knife worked just fine.  Much easier to fillet than you would think.  It's a new personal record by 1/2 inch and definitely the biggest and heaviest fish I've handed to date big_smile .

I noticed Ernie first posted at 10:50 PM. By that time I had been sawing logs for over an hour, and I'm barely functioning now at noon and I didn't even crank in a fish. It was a good day to be on the river with two good guys and I had fun, something about a plan coming together. It's way better than sitting home reading fishing forums.

Re: 12/3, Lower Potomac River report....only one number is important!

Bob posted this on another board "Wasn't my day, Wawa even left the turkey off my subs".

When we got to Wawa,  offered to buy his subs and when we dug into them at noon, all he had was a cheese 'n bacon sammie. I felt bad as I had asked for extra turkey in mine (and got it). But it was too late, I ate mine before he checked his....

1) About 10 lbs.
2) Just lucky I guess................I netted it too.  It looked like a 50-incher when we first got it in the boat.
