11/1/09 Pavillion Report

Went fishing around noon today with Dustin(buckshot) for about 1 hour 30min.  The challenge was trying to find the right bait.  I started catching them with a small gold/orange shallow crankbait.  The challenge soon turned into finding the right spots to cast.  I caught 3 by a drainage structure.  Then Dustin caught a nice one in a cove with a chatterbait.  Then I caught 3 more under a bridge.  They were mostly small, the largest one was 14inch., the others ranges from 4 to 10inches.

Does anybody know what typically the best baits for after rain and cold weather conditions are?

Re: 11/1/09 Pavillion Report

Went fishing at the pavilion today.  I caught 5 bluegill and 1 bass.  The same bait I used yesterday that caught me 6 bass, caught me 5 bluegill today.  I thought that was a little unusual.  I talked to Matt and Dustin who also fished the pavilion and they said they caught a couple of bass on a wacky rigged worm and texas rigged worm.

beautiful colors on that sunfish! The white on the fins reminds me of a brookie during the spawn.

Re: 11/1/09 Pavillion Report

definitely a sunfish. Much prettier than bluegills.

Warmouths are dark with spots, picture a sunfish that looks like a smallmouth. Almost like a rock bass.

So nice Coz!! That last picture is the one that sticks out in my mind.....

I am going to FL Thursday but won't have a chance to chase Peacocks...that will have to wait until February (not the best time).

It was a blast. They tear up your hands badly however, because they have grittier teeth and thrash more while being held.

Didn't mean it in a negative way Andy. Just saying that it didn't look like my peacock bass. Every fish in the link above is a peacock bass except the long silver arowana.

Re: 11/1/09 Pavillion Report

Nice! A fellow monster fish keeper. Until a few years ago, I didn't think there were so many species of peacock bass.  I had a red tail cat but he kept eating everything (my stingrays, rocks, suction cups) so I had to get rid of him. Water changes aren't too bad, it's the humidity in the basement thats getting to me.

sorry about hijacking the thread sad

Re: 11/1/09 Pavillion Report

andrew, I need to introduce you to my buddy Thai. He is (or at least was) a monster fish keeper as well. He was on that monster fish keepers website I believe. He's also a heck of a fisherman. We'll have to get you out with us one of these days.
