4-5-23, "O"

What a GREAT day!

I met Carlos at the lot around 7:45a. I was exited to fish with him so I had the boat almost ready to go when he got there. You see, Carlos and I have been friends a long time and are fellow countrymen. Plus, we had not fished in years...even before Covid. He is a great dad and was totally consumed with his two busy daughters. Further, he also travels the world with his job.

He pulled up in his yeep (how Cubans say Jeep) and we picked up where we left off!

The weather was sooooo nice. It was in the 60's already and climbing. But so would the wind. mad

Off we went!

Today, we lived or died with the long stick. No spinning gear aboard!

We started in the middle and we were not having any action. It seemed the shad were low. We did have sinking lines but it takes a while to get down in the zone.

I did get to get the skunk off 1st...

Not feeling it, we went up where I like it. There were 2 boats there. I chatted with them to make sure they were OK and everyone played nice. One of the guys said, "you're Ernie right?" lol He's been on Pacemaker for sure!

Then Carlos got his 1st!

We had them semi dialed in and caught some more.

After catching 15 (mostly FAT) or so, someone hit the switch and it died. For almost everyone up there.

Getting the line down was not a problem as there was no current (issue #1). While the tide was going out, water was flowing in, it seemed (issue #2). Then, the winds picked up (issue #3) and it was near impossible to make casts. On one of my casts, I conked the back of my head with a weighted fly. Good thing I was wearing a hat because the fly went through the base of the back of the hat. I would have had a piercing if not for the hat!

BTW, I now hold the IGFA record (on the fly) for the smallest red ear sunfish ever caught!

We didn't catch a fish after the winds came so at 12:30p, we called it.

Nah...it wasn't windy.  roll

As we motor up, I see a familiar silhouette. We chatted for a bit but I had some wind to deal with while I put the boat on the trailer.

I got this shot later.

Who is it?

Well, none other than Khahn!!

It was good to see him. He was after the elusive carp...what else is new?

We ran in to Don and his grandson, Ace. He caught 25 on spinning. I told him he was good 'cause he beat us!

We ordered lunch and I looked out over the parking lot, almost every spot was taken. And there were trailers on the upper lot.

We were so hungry that we forgot to take pics of our pork BBQ sammies. They were outstanding!!

As I said up front, today was a great day!

What a great report!  Those fish were tanks, but the real story is you and your friend and fellow countryman sharing a great day catching up and having fun.  Those are some of the best pictures I have seen you post with such big smiles!

I even guessed Khanh, after looking hard before scrolling further and I don't even know him.  I would have said you were crazy to fly fish in today's wind, but you made it work.

Wow!  That looks fake, it's so big.  Funny picture after.  What's the story?

I guessed it was Khahn based on the silhouette lol Getting out on the water is a win. Everyone catching fish is an even bigger win!
